Commarque/France Project

Château de Commarque. The Château de Commarque is a hillside castle located between Sarlat and Les Eyzies, in the commune of Les Eyzies in the Dordogne department in southern France. It stands on a rocky outcrop in the valley of the river La Beune in the Vézère valley region.

I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in this project, and travel to France to present it. When we first started the project, we weren’t sure exactly what it would look like. Our client was very generous to work with us and we were able to build off of his prompts as well as our own informed decisions to build the framework of the project. We researched a lot, discussed our findings, compiled information, organized it in a way that made sense, and made many decisions about what we wanted to include or not include. This helped us to grow as a team and learn how to work with people that we hadn’t necessarily ever worked with before.

When it came time to present, we were blessed to be able to travel to Commarque, France and meet our client in person. To be able to experience the hospitality of the Commarque family and see the beautiful locations that we had done so much research about was an incredibly valuable experience. We spoke with the clients about many different aspects of our research and report, and I definitely had some great takeaways. I think the most valuable parts of this process were learning how to work in a team and form a cohesive vision, learning how to communicate effectively with a client, and how to adapt to changing circumstances in a professional and efficacious manner. I am very thankful to have had this opportunity, and am looking forward to working on more projects in the future!

I was blessed with the opportunity to travel to France with SIBC this summer. During our trip we were able to explore various regions of the country, primarily spending time in the Dordogne region near our client. We worked with and ultimately presented to the family of a count who owns Chateaus in the region, which was an absolutely incredible experience! Being able to learn about French culture and actually see it in person was incredible, and gave me real-world International business experience!

SIBC has been an excellent experience and one that I will treasure going forward. The unique challenges you face on the different projects really push you to grow in ways that will make you immensely stronger for whatever you end up doing in the future. In this particular project we were given the task of marketing a centuries old castle in France. I didn’t realize how tricky that could be until we started getting into the weeds and tackling it head on. This experience has definitely taught me the value of thinking outside the box and it is an experience i will always look back on with fond memories. My favorite part of SIBC has been getting to know other students with different majors, who may not even be business majors, but share the same drive and energy about helping others and being of service. This is the core of SIBC. To mold a new generation of business leaders who have the priority of being of service to others and adding irreplaceable value to society, so that we can have a brighter future.

I have been a part of SIBC for two years, and this year I feel like I have significantly grown in my marketing skills that have pushed me to really indulge in research that has helped my team try to market Commarque better. I really enjoy working with a team to achieve an end goal, and this team has been extremely beneficial to be a part of while marketing this castle. After our extensive research of this castle, I feel like I have learned a lot about what it takes to try to be successful while working with another company to help them market their product. This has been a great experience, and my favorite memory of my group this year was when we were filming our video, because it allowed us to bond and it was really fun. I think it is really cool to see what everyone has to offer in a team, and we had many different skill sets that each person had that were added to this project. I would recommend SIBC to anyone who wants real life opportunities to use and strengthen their skills to help companies become better.
