Spark Tank

A new venture in Ferguson will offer training and assistance to area entrepreneurs in an effort to help spur economic development. Spark Tank – Ferguson, a new pilot program of the Benedictine College School of Business, based in Atchison, Kansas, brings together faculty and staff from the college’s Thompson Center for Integrity in Finance and Economics and its Cray Center for Entrepreneurial Services with local partners Civil Righteousness, based in Ferguson, and Premier Business Brokers, based in St. Louis. The group has developed a website, Spark-Tank.org, and plans to start soliciting entrepreneurs, mentors, and Spark Tank team members.

“Throughout the last two semesters working on the SparkTank project, I have had the opportunity to grow in a variety of ways. Working on a team with Grace has been wonderful, and we have spent lots of time brainstorming and discussing ideas to add value to the SparkTank program.  Learning how to communicate and collaborate professionally with Dave Geenens and Matthew Gephardt, along with all of our other business partners has been formative and helped me to adapt to life as a business professional in the near future.  I am thankful for the opportunity that I have had to be challenged and nurture my creativity, professionalism, and interpersonal skills through this project.” - Rosanna McKeown

“Working on the Spark Tank team has given me many valuable takeaways and helped me further develop my skills. Brainstorming and developing a website with Rosanna has been a great experience and challenged me to think outside of the box. This past year, Professor Dave Geenens and Matthew Gephardt have been a joy to work with. They have helped guide and direct us while developing a new curriculum for aspiring entrepreneurs in underserved communities. I have learned so much throughout my time working on this project and the past year in SIBC.” - Grace Sousa
