Buyside

This is a joint event with Notre Dame and the University of San Diego. Each school is assigned a topic.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful and versatile technology with beneficial applications across virtually every corner of the economy.  When used correctly, AI can drive prosperity and serve as a catalyst of opportunity. Fully unlocking AI’s transformative potential will require supporting the innovative momentum around AI technologies and applications. It will also require building and maintaining public trust in AI — imperatives with shared responsibility across corporations and government.

Each SIBC team will research a unique industry and present:

  • The impact of AI on the specific sector

  • The most innovative technologies and companies in the sector

  • Recommendations for investment in AI businesses within the sector

Benedictine College’s specific research topic is AI in the retail industry.

This was a great experience to be able to get to network with other aspiring young business professionals from across the country. My favorite part of this project was the dinner the night before our presentation, and the opportunities presented from that. The ability to conduct research and work alongside other motivated individuals is an excellent experience to be a part of, and one I would recommend to all future SIBC members.

The Buyside Project was an excellent opportunity for me and my group to learn more about Artificial Intelligence's possible impacts on the Retail sector. It was also a great opportunity to practice Financial Analysis, as well as Quantitative Analysis. It was a challenge, but well worth the reward of knowing that it was a job well done. I learned what it is like to work with a team efficiently, as well as what people in the investment industry are looking for. This project helped further SIBC’s mantra of “Peace through Commerce” by networking with industry professionals from around the country, as well as students from other Universities. While we all came from different parts of the U.S., we all had one common goal. This goal was to expand the web of comradery, and demonstrate that while we are all from different upbringings, we can still find ways to reach across the table. - Finnian Clark
